Semmi was born in 1987 in Savigliano, a small town in Piedmont, Northern Italy. He later moved to Confreria, where he spent 26 years of his life. From an early age, he loved to draw, paint, and disassemble things. One day, Gino Balocco, a local painter and family friend, noticed some of his scribbles and predicted that Semmi would develop strong artistic skills over the years.
During middle school, Semmi did not show much interest in art until he met a young art teacher who introduced him to the works of Jean-Michel Basquiat, Andy Warhol, Keith Haring, and Mimmo Rotella. The teacher took the class to various exhibitions, including a Basquiat showcase in Cuneo. Encountering the immense EXU artwork felt like reaching both a finish line and a starting line at the same time. Inspired, Semmi presented a reproduction of the piece to the examining board at the end of the school year.
At the age of 16, he attended a vocational school, which gave him the opportunity to complete an internship at Antico Colorificio Ponzio, an iconic fine arts shop in Cuneo. That same year, he and his parents visited friends in Valeggio sul Mincio, near Verona, where he was gifted a catalogue from a local art exhibition. That catalogue completely transformed his way of perceiving and seeing things. On the journey back home, he listened to the same music track on repeat. During that very winter night, he conceptualised an abstract design in his mind and reproduced it as soon as he arrived home.
From then on, he began experimenting with new art forms and unconventional techniques, literally assembling items he had collected over the years: notes, photos, drawings, clippings, shoes, clothes, vinyl records, wood, and more. He began creating music videos, first using his father's Sony Camcorder, then transitioning to early digital cameras. Eventually, he expanded into video editing, sound recording, and music production. Today, the attic in the building where he lives is being adapted to accommodate these new creative spaces. He emptied the space completely, transforming it into a personal den where he could isolate himself from everyone and get closer to everything—a place where the walls and even the floor were covered in inspiration.
He later left Italy to move to Romania with his wife, Ronnie, where they both participated in voluntary preaching work. While there, he specialised in video editing and digital photography, working as a freelancer and a wedding photographer.
The couple eventually relocated to Belfast, where they currently live. His inspiration and desire to create are incredibly strong here, in a city where urban art and boundless landscapes seamlessly blend together. In this environment, he has begun to focus on digital drawing and graphics. In 2020, six of his friends in Italy founded the iQWeb Digital Marketing Agency and invited him to join them.
